Best Methods for Drug Delivery in a Severely Calcified Artery

Due to the availability of new imaging modalities, including histopathology and faxitron, we now see the true composition of calcium deposits in obstructive plaque, the vessel wall and the adventitia. We now know there is more to what the eye can see and that all calcium cannot be labeled based on currently available scoring modalities. In fact, the complex multi-level, multi-layer calcium that we see in CLI patients has no respect for borders and cannot be labeled as mild, moderate or severe. The reality is that the level of calcification in these patients is beyond severe. Listen in to learn the modern approach to treatment of real-world severe calcification.

The Awareness of CLI Part 1

Shockingly, the data shows that almost 50 percent of primary care physicians are not aware that their patients have PAD. The majority of them don’t know their patients have CLI. Unfortunately, by the time CLI is diagnosed, it is too late for some of those patients. Believe it or not, the location where your diagnosis of CLI is given makes a difference on time to treatment and patient prognosis.
