Using IVUS and FFR to Diagnose and Treat Patients With Multivessel Disease

Presented By:

Morton J. Kern, MD, FSCAI, FAHA, FACC

This case demonstrates the value of precision guidance tools such as IVUS and FFR to augment angiography in a complex LAD intervention. In this case, IVUS was used to confirm proper stent sizing and full stent expansion. FFR was later deployed to assess the significance of the moderate jailing of a diagonal branch. As with all interventions, the strategy and approach can change quickly, as angiography is often not enough to confirm a PCI strategy and result. Having multiple modalities such as IVUS and FFR integrated in one system ensures physicians can quickly choose the appropriate tool according to the unique patient presentation, and adjust on the fly should that strategy change.
